Why Run for The Royal Parks Foundation?

The Royal Parks Foundation was launched in May 2003 to help protect, conserve and enhance London’s eight Royal Parks - 5000 acres of trees, lakes and meadows, stretching from Greenwich in the east, to Richmond and Bushy in the west.

Research shows that well planned and managed Parks are one of the most vital sources of well being in any city. They reduce the stress of urban living and improve people’s lives.

Good Parks reflect some of society’s strongest interests today - healthy living, care for the environment, education, history and heritage.

Combine these benefits, and add a good measure of fun, and it’s easy to see why The Royal Parks have become the heart and lungs of our stunningly beautiful, green city.

The charity’s objectives are to:Royal Parks Tree

• Conserve the Parks’ wildlife and promote sustainability
• Restore the Parks’ natural landscapes and historical monuments
• Educate people about the value of the Parks and their amazing heritage
• Improve access to the Parks and their use for leisure

Your sponsorship will support the work of the Royal Parks Foundation. Recent projects have included:

• New bird, duck and bat nesting boxes - safe homes for these animals, encouraging them to breed in the Parks
• Tree planting – using mainly native species we have been restoring the beauty of ancient avenues, providing shade for the Park’s 30 million visitors and shelter for an amazing range of wildlife
• Creating and caring for new areas for wildlife such as meadows and reed beds to conserve bees, butterflies, dragonflies and other wildlife
• Renovating the classrooms at Bushy Park encouraging urban schoolchildren to experience and appreciate the natural world
• Restoring the sports pitches in Regent’s Park and encouraging young people and adults from deprived areas to get more active
