EVERY CHILD HAS THE RIGHT TO PLAY
Over 700 million children don’t know what it means to play. Right To Play is helping to change that.
Right To Play is an international organization that uses sport and play programs to improve health, life skills, and foster peace for children and communities in the most disadvantaged areas of the world. Right To Play works in both the humanitarian and development context by training volunteers as Coaches to deliver our programs in more than 20 countries affected by war, poverty, and disease in Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, guides our work. Right To Play programs targets the most marginalized including girls, the disabled, children affected by HIV and AIDS, street children, former child combatants, and refugees.
Right To Play is supported by an international team of top athletes from over 40 countries. As role models,
these athletes inspire children, raise awareness and funding for Right To Play projects.
Currently Right To Play works in: Azerbaijan, Benin, Chad, China, Ethiopia, Ghana, Indonesia, Jordan, Lebanon, Liberia, Mali, Mozambique, Pakistan, Palestinian Territories, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda, United Arab Emirates, and Zambia.
Right To Play is headquartered in Toronto, Canada and has national offices in the Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, the UK, the US, Canada, UAE and China. The mandate of a national office is to build government relationships, drive revenue and advocate for sport for development.
Right To Play builds local capacity in four strategic areas:
1. Basic Education and Child Development
Right To Play’s sport and play programs foster the physical, cognitive and social development of children to teach important values and life skills.
2. Health Promotion and Disease Prevention
Right To Play sport and play programs are used to educate and mobilize communities around national health and disease prevention priorities, including HIV and AIDS, malaria and immunization.
3. Conflict Resolution and Peace Education
Right To Play programs are used as tools for teaching conflict resolution and peace building skills. Participation in regular activities encourages and facilitates the healing of communities and the reintegration of children affected by war.
4. Community Development
In order to create change and have a sustainable impact, Right To Play works in partnership with local organizations to build community infrastructure through the engagement of local staff and local and international volunteers.
Right To Play UK
Our UK National Office was set up in August 2006 by Chris Robinson, former Chief Executive of the charity, CHASE. Right To Play UK has won the support of Chelsea Football Club through an exclusive 6 year partnership. Last year a number of their players and coaching staff visiting one of our projects in Ghana. Our other athlete ambassadors include John Regis (100/200m), Greg Rutherford (Long Jump), Chemmy Alcott (skiing) and Sebastien Foucan (free-running). The support of our athletes and other partners as well as our committed group of volunteers ensure that we are able to raise fund for our international projects and raise awareness of Right To Play in the UK.
