This brand new event promises to be one of the most scenic and iconic city half marathons, taking in four of the historic Royal Parks and landmarks such as the royal Albert Hall, Big Ben and Buckingham Palace.
Epilepsy Action is delighted to have been chosen as one of the partner charities by the Royal Parks Foundation and, through our 150 race places we hope not only to raise much needed funds to support our work, but to raise awareness and understanding of epilepsy.
Did you know that everyday 80 people are diagnosed with epilepsy?
That’s is one person every 10 minutes.
That’s 80 people every day who are faced with an uncertain future, who will often be scared and unable to find out what epilepsy means for them.
Sadly, many health professionals have little knowledge of epilepsy and are unable to help and people are left wondering what does this mean? People newly diagnosed with epilepsy often find it hard to talk about, hard to understand and want to know whose fault it is (it isn't anyone’s fault, it just happens).
Common questions follow. “What does having epilepsy mean for school?”, “What does it mean for work?”. People start to ask: “Will I be able to go to the shops, do the washing up, catch the bus?”, “Why can’t I drive anymore, how will I get about?”
On top that, because of a general lack of knowledge about epilepsy, someone newly diagnosed may face discrimination and isolation.
Epilepsy Action works to change that situation.
BUT, we face a massive challenge in doing our work.
So why not join our team today and take positive action to make a real difference?
We have runners taking part in races up and down the country in support of our vital work, from the world famous London Marathon and Great North Run to our very own Bradford 10K City Centre race and 10k multi terrain Alice’s Run. So why not join the team and take part in what promises to be a spectacular day out in the Capital?
We will give you all the support we can, from help with fundraising to training plans and one of our top quality running vests to wear on the day – we’ll also be there on Sunday 12 October to wave you off at the start and wish you luck, and to welcome you across the finish line to congratulate you on completing the race!
Take some positive action for people affected by epilepsy and join our team today.
